Mentoring best practices is an important area of research that allows us to determine effective strategies to support individual growth and development. At LCI, we are interested in how mentoring supports sense of belonging, academic and professional achievement, and reduces barriers to success. Our current research focuses on advancing best practices in mentoring in academia for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty members.
Chemical Education Research
Faculty members play an essential role in exposing students to career options and encouraging students to pursue them. In the classroom, not only do students have an opportunity to expand what they know about a field academically, but also the classroom serves as a great space for developing a sense of belonging in students career choices. At LCI, we interested in development of faculty inspired strategies that can make big impacts in the STEM classroom, which also consider the dynamics of STEM classrooms and the design of course-based undergraduate research experiences that can be implemented in STEM classes.

LCI is a partner site of the Molecular Immunotherapeutics Research (MIR) lab which focuses on a number of projects ranging from drug design, protein engineering, to structural biology. The MIR lab research program also has a strong interest in uncovering structure function relationships in biological systems and developing high quality 3D models of unsolved protein structures. Using computational methods, the MIR lab discovers and develops toolkits that can be used as keys to design everything from biotools, to proteins, to pharmaceutical compounds and more.
Want to pursue research at LCI?
LCI is always excited to create opportunities for students to participate in research. In partnership with the L & Leola Educational Advancement Foundation, we offer research experiences for undergraduate students and post-baccalaureate students.
