Branch

This research-focused branch of LCI is dedicated to studying and improving educational practices. It conducts research in areas such as curriculum development, special education methodologies, and the challenges faced by minority students in education, and mentoring best practices. LCI seeks to develop tools to enhance teaching and learning. Additionally LCI performs computational research in drug design.

Research Areas:

  • Mentoring: Focuses on best practices in mentoring, particularly in how mentoring helps reduce barriers to success and fosters academic achievement for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty members.

  • Chemical Education: Explores how faculty can inspire students to pursue STEM careers and improve classroom dynamics and course-based undergraduate research experiences.

  • Computational Biochemistry & Drug Design: In collaboration with the Molecular Immunotherapeutics Research (MIR) lab, LCI is working on innovative research in drug design, protein engineering, and structural biology to aid in cancer detection and drug discovery.
